Since 2002
The official music club of the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru — active since 2002
Rhythmica is the official music group of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, active since 2002. It began as a casual space for students to play and experiment with music together and has grown into a structured, audition-led club known for polished campus performances — the same story the club tells across its stage, its recordings, and its social pages.
Today, that takes the shape of two main shows a year at the JN Tata Auditorium, plus Bandish, the club's annual show that connects alumni founders with the current lineup. Rhythmica's sine-wave identity reflects the meeting point of music and scientific inquiry at IISc.
Beyond the performances, the club exists as an outlet inside a demanding academic community — a space for stress relief, friendship, and mentorship as much as for music itself.
Some of that history is only written down because alumni have gone out of their way to remember it publicly — reunion posts, old recordings, comment threads recalling shows nobody wrote down at the time. A few of those pieces are collected in the Archive.
